Vets in Ho Chi Minh City: Hours and Services Compared

Danny Pet Hospital and Dr. Trinh Animal Hospital both run a 24/7 emergency service. Danny's regular hours are 08:00-12:00 and 14:00-20:30; Dr. Trinh's are 08:00-20:00. Dogs and cats are the animals the Ministry names for compulsory rabies vaccination. Call first for a night visit.

Two of the three clinics here run a 24/7 emergency service: Danny Pet Hospital and Dr. Trinh Animal Hospital. The third, Forest International Animal Hospital, sits in the Phu My Hung urban area. No clinic here publishes prices, so get the fee quoted before treatment.

Danny Pet Hospital — Thao Dien emergency and surgery

Danny Pet Hospital offers examination and treatment, parasite prevention and vaccination, surgery, 24/7 emergency, tests and diagnostic imaging, boarding and grooming. Equipment includes a digital X-ray machine and a sterile operating room.

Good for

• A night emergency: doctors are on duty through the night.
• Surgery and imaging at one site.

Skip if

• You want pet transport or cremation: Dr. Trinh offers those, Danny does not.

Dr. Trinh International Animal Hospital — vaccines, surgery and pet transport

Dr. Trinh offers female sterilisation, neutering of male dogs and cats, dog and cat vaccination, caesarean sections, diagnosis and treatment, surgery and orthopaedics, pet cremation and pet transport. It also runs a pet hotel.

Good for

• Owners moving abroad or between provinces: domestic and international pet transport is available.
• Vaccination and sterilisation under one roof.
• A night emergency: the emergency service works 24/7.

Skip if

• You expect the front desk at night: regular hours are 08:00-20:00, and only the emergency service runs 24/7.

Rabies and vaccination rules

The Law on Animal Health (79/2015/QH13) makes vaccination against dangerous infectious diseases compulsory when the veterinary authority requires it. The Ministry’s circular on land-animal disease prevention covers rabies in dogs and cats.

The animals subject to compulsory vaccination are dogs and cats.

The circular sets a main rabies campaign each year in March to April, and a monthly supplementary round covers new dogs and cats and those whose protection has run out. The local veterinary authority issues a rabies vaccination certificate to the owner of a vaccinated dog or cat.

If a dog or cat bites or scratches someone, the owner must compensate the injured person under the law. Keep your vaccination certificate with you.

Before you go

• Bring the rabies vaccination certificate, which the local veterinary authority issues to the owner.
